The Book Of Us
The Book Of Us is a book created by all 50 students on the team RUN DMC. Each one of us created a 1-5 page story on any topic that we found interesting and had plenty to talk about. Some people chose to write about a personal experience or their passion or just anything, really. The whole process included brainstorming for a topic, filling in an outline, writing quick writes, creating a graphic organizer, making an actual story, critiquing other peoples stories, then finalizing our own story.
First, Dr. P, had shown us examples on how he filled in his outlines and how to answer the subtopics on the outline of The Six Real World Writing Purposes. He cleared up many of our questions, because we first thought it was confusing but then we got the hang of it. From the outline, we chose which of the purposes we could widely expand on. We wrote quick writes as practice and then put it all together in a rough draft. Our rough drafts were critiqued in person, through google drive, basically in every way possible- from grammar critiques to format critiques. After all the critiquing was done (by more than 5 people), we proceeded onto finalizing it and printing out our very own book! The whole process was definitely a lot of hard work but inthe end, the work has paid off. I mean, how many teens our age could say they've participated in writing a book?

The Process of writing The Book of Us
This project has taught me that sometimes the answer is simply just in front of you. Starting this project, I had no idea what I wanted to write about. I mean, I have passions and stuff like that but nothing that I thought of intrigued me enough for me to expand on it. For days, while everyone else was writing in their outline for the book, I sat there thinking of interesting things I could write about. After many days of thinking, I just picked up my phone, and at the time, I had a lady with dreads and a tattoo on her back, as my lock screen wallpaper. That's the moment I knew that I wanted to talk about tattoos. I proceeded on writing in the 1 topic = 18 topics sheet and I realized that I really liked the ¨Take a stand/Propose a solution¨ subtopic. It seemed to stand out to me because I was very intrigued by the Tattoo Discrimination in a workplace. From there, I was critiqued multiple times. In one occasion, one of my peers changed the format of my paragraphs because they thought it would make better sense like that. But what I really liked from my final draft was that I included a quote by Voltaire and I'd like to include quotes that fit to my piece whenever I write another piece. In the end, i had a different structured piece with relative information but I had added in some paragraphs and took some out, included statistics and added a quote to make it more appealing. I even put it I realized that all I had to do was really look at my phone just for me to discover an interesting topic to write about.
